Snow Shoe
Lifestyle February 10, 2016
So the other day we took the kids snow shoeing in Sundance and it was SO FUN!!!! That was my first time and I want to go again! I am always so scared I am going to slip in the ice so having little daggers on the bottom of my feet definitely makes me happy, ha. Atticus fell asleep in the backpack carrier and Rosie was asleep the whole time. After snow shoeing we went to Tibble Fork Canyon and met up with our friends Hailey and Brad and their daughter, Lucy! We love that they are down for anything - the other week we were sitting there planning a new trip and were thinking... we need to find a family we can travel with who have a kid A's age and are always down for traveling... and then we both said, duh the Devines! Haha they really are so great and easy going which is what we like ;) We got home to NYC last night and right after we landed me and Rosie went straight to her first swim lesson. Me and my girlfriends signed the babies up for this free class they have for new babies, I didn't know what to expect but I loved it. I have to say traveling with two kids thus far has been so great. We didn't travel for a bit since I was pregnant and then Rosie was just so new and I think in that little time period Atticus became a great age for traveling. I dont want to jinx it but he has been so unbelievably good on flights lately. Honestly he always has been and I can count the number of flights I have been stressed or frustrated on one hand but hes been extra good ;) And of course Rosie just sleeps and plays! After Rosie is older and isn't sleeping as much we will make another post on traveling tips but this time with two. We have thought of some good ones so far but obviously it will be a different ball game when she is a little wiggly worm. Hope you have a good day!
^^We forgot sleds so the boys took the kids down on their butts haha
^^Rosie girl loved Hailey!
^^We rent cars from Avis everywhere we go and it made me miss driving around blasting music π
^^David swinging from the tree
^^Us watching David swing from the tree haha
^^Rosie was passed out almost the whole time!

Wow!! Thank you so much!! What a nice compliment π
Amber, just as Elizabeth Taylor had $2,000,000 insurance for her violet eyes, you really should do the same for your skin… thereβs really nothing like it. π

I just love reading your blog Amber and when I am done I always show it to my husband. We love to explore to world too and in his believe you cannot traveling and kids don’t go together. So I like to show your blog and photos to proof him wrong haha and after this one he even said, okay okay it might be possible! Haha THANK YOU for that! Xo
Thank you so much!! I love hearing that π And yes! You can totally do it! We love sharing so many experiences with our kids! Thanks again for the sweet comment!!! xo
Hey Amber! I just love reading your blog and after I am done I am always showing it to my husband! We love to explore the world too but he doesn’t want to have kids yet because in his believe you can’t travel with kids. Well I am so glad I can show your blog and photos to proof him wrong haha! After this post he even said; okay okay it might be possible. Haha THANK YOU for that! xo
Unfortunately Amber makes it look like a piece of cake to travel with kids. For the majority of people traveling with children they don’t get free rooms where they stay. It’s hard to trust bloggers with millions of followers because they get SO MUCH FREE STUFF, or get paid A LOT of money for shout outs on their blog. Pretty sure an average family traveling would be spending more money than Amber because they have to pay for everything. Also Amber seems to be the lucky few who have angel children when traveling all the time. Very rarely do I have peaceful flights when there are other kiddos on the plane. VERY rarely. She definitely makes it sound and look easy, That’s for sure.
Hi Sandy!! Thanks for your comment! I just wanted to clarify a few things. We do get travel sponsorships often but in the time we have been traveling with Atticus we have paid for our flight + hotel + all other travel expenses more than we havent. I can honestly say traveling with a baby has been a BLAST. Even when we were paying every cent. Even when our hotel is free, that shouldnt make a difference on whether or not the flight is good or bad or whether my children behave well while on vacation.. all that would do is make it less stressful financially but that doesn’t make it better or worse kids-wise. I am just pointing this out because I am a huge advocate in traveling with children. I have heard SO many people complain about it or say they can’t “because of the kids”. From our experience it has made us so much closer with Atticus and I think its so important for people to continue to live life and explore after having kids. I know they won’t remember these trips but I will and I will be able to show them photos and videos and retell countless memories. I really think that is priceless. People make a lot of excuses for not traveling and we have traveled with NO money and with money.. we pitched tents in Europe for 6 weeks or found airbnb’s for $25 a night and ate ramen for crying out loud. It is possible and it is worth it, free hotels or not. We have had a few bad flights with non stop crying but have had WAY more successful flights and I think parents get stressed about the flying process and in the end realize it wasn’t as bad as they thought. I hope that doesn’t come off as rude but wanted to point that out. XO
Hi everyone! I am sorry if I am the person who caused this argument. I was honestly just talking about my own situation and I am fully aware of the fact how blessed ambers situation is. I know not every child is as easy going as hers but I just like to show my husband her trips with the kids and we because we travel a lot already I know from personal experience there are a lot more kids like hers. And I don’t think travel is any different whether you are sponsored or not. So if I just speak for myself I just live reading your blog Amber!
ALSO the average salary according to the official Social Security Website as of 2014-2015 (last updated) is $46,481 a year. Traveling as much as Amber does, as a family of 4, to the destinations, and the amount of traveling she does is just plain unrealistic to the average working family. Who can really afford traveling multiple times a month, making an average of under $50k a year? Not to mention, someone who works a regular job would have to ask for so much vacation time. She definitely is very blessed, but her lifestyle is unrealistic to the average US family. Definitely “can’t keep up” with her. Maybe if she wanted other people to genuinely be inspired to travel like she does her posts should teach her readers how she is able to budget for these trips and make them happen. She makes a lot of money, she spends a lot of money, but she also gets A LOT for free. Not the norm.
Why are you wasting your time reading her blog and making comments if you are just going to say negative things? Amber posts beautiful pictures and gives us a glimpse into her life. No one that reads her blog needs to “keep up with her,” but it sure is fun to have something short to read, get great hair ideas, and see gorgeous pictures. She is just super blessed!! Her and her husband probably worked and still work way hard to be where they are at. That is very admirable.
Honestly, anonymous, I used to love reading Amber’s blog. She was inspiring and motivating. I would go out and try things she would suggest, and really believed she was genuinely behind her recommendations. As she’s grown in followers/popularity I’ve noticed that she suggests products to her readers and I’m now realizing – does she ACTUALLY use this? You know how many things I’ve bought that she recommends? A TON! Because she’s gorgeous and I think, OH maybe this will work for me, too? But what am I really doing? I’m letting go of my real self, spending money I don’t have, and setting unrealistic expectations for my life. Since reading Amber’s blog alone I’ve bought hair, eyelashes, expensive makeup and clothes, pushed myself to the limit as a mom trying to travel like she does and nothing ever seems to go as seamless as it does for her. Of course I’m jealous – I’m not ashamed to admit that. How could anyone look at Amber and her life and not be? She has literally EVERYTHING perfectly put together in her life. I want to see a little more realism to her blog, products she actually DOES stand behind, REAL advice that noone paid her to give. I’m just disappointed and jealous all at the same time. I used to feel good reading her blog and watching her beautiful life. Now, I honestly feel defeated and never good enough. So I commented on someone else’s post about convincing their husband that they CAN travel with kids. Because the truth is Amber’s life just isn’t realistic. And I can’t be the only one feeling that way. And you’re right, I am wasting my time reading her blog now. Me and my friends have been turned off by her lately. Comparison is totally a buzz kill.
Sandy you are 100% right, comparison IS a buzz kill! I do it sometimes and it only makes me feel terrible. I don’t expect anyone to live the lifestyle I live but I started this blog sharing my photos, travels, thoughts and recommendations etc. and that is still what it is today. I can honestly say I never talk about a beauty product that I haven’t tried and truly liked, or any product for that matter. For example we just got offered a campaign with a popular company who makes bottles. Rosie won’t take their bottle and only uses a certain brand so while that job was high paying we didn’t think twice about turning it down because we do not use those bottles. There is no shortage of jobs or people who want to promote their product so it is not worth it to me to promote things I don’t want my readers to try or use. I also just want you to remember that everyone shares their happy moments online, not the ones they don’t want to remember. I try my best to include stories that are embarrassing or sad or frustrating to me so that it is clear that I have my fair share of “pits” but when Atticus is crying I don’t think to pull out the camera or when David and I have a fight I dont think to pull out the camera. If we sat down for lunch I think you would realize you and I are probably MUCH more similar than you think. It makes me really sad that I have made you feel defeated because I have felt that way and its no good. I grew up with a normal life – I was never given money or a trust fund or anything like that, anything I have I earned on my own. That being said, in college I was so poor I could barely pay my utilities! I raised money and saved my own money for a service trip to Fiji which was the first time I traveled and I didn’t wear make up or fancy clothes or anything those entire 6 weeks I was in Fiji, and I was SO happy. Money is not everything, neither are clothes or lashes or any of that. “being happy is being grateful” xo
honestly makes me sooooo happy that you still are adventurous with atticus and rosie!! cutest thing ever!! I wanna be like that when I’m a mom π also, I am going skiing on sunday and it’s my 1st time and im sooooooo excited!! do you have any advice on what I should wear? makeup? hair? basic stuff like that. I wanna take pictures so I want to look cute haha. thanks amber xoxo
Aww thank you Sara!! That means a lot to me π And how fun!! I hope you have a blast! I would definitely keep the makeup to a minimum (mascara, foundation, blush chapstick?!), and also make sure you wear sunscreen on your face or use a foundation with sunscreen in it. I would wear your hair in pigtail braids (looks so cute yet functional) or something to keep it back out of your face. As far as clothing, I like to wear a thermal long sleeve under my snow coat so if I warm up to much, I can just wear that, oh and a cute beanie of course!! I hope that helps!! xoxo
This is adorable Amber! Love the carriers for the kiddos and how colorful all of your snow gear is! Looks like it was a blast!!

What awesome photos! I love snowshoeing and you have such a gorgeous area out there to go! Just want to say how fantastic it is that you are always exposing your kids to the wonders of the outdoors. My parents did the same with me growing up and now you find me outside rain, snow, or shine. That will be something that they will grow to appreciate well into their adult years. What awesome memories you are making with them. Very cool.
On a different note, I love your lipstick in these photos! What kind is it π

I’m pretty sure all of us would love to sit and have coffee with you just so we could get to know you better. I have been polling everyone around me and was wondering what your perspective is because you and your man seem so in love! <3 xo
Thank you so much Morgan!! I love hearing that!! You are so sweet! I appreciate it π And I would love to sit down and chat with you too! And that’s a great question, I think one of the big adjustments was learning how to communicate with one another effectively π
