Upside Down Braided Bun

Hair August 30, 2014

Barefoot BlondeTOP: LOFT // JEANS: LOFT

I have had a lot of requests for a how to for this look and so excited to finally do it! It is actually really easy, minus some blood rushing to your head haha :) but here are the steps..

1. Tip your head upside down and grab three strands and begin to do a Dutch braid (Dutch just means you cross the outside strand UNDER the middle strand instead of over like you would a French braid!)

2. Once you have your dutch braid, secure it with an elastic and then pull your hair into a pony and secure that with an elastic.

3. To get rid of any grease and to give your pony some volume and texture, spray TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo and then wrap your hair into a messy bun and secure it.

4. To finish, you can pull apart your braid to make it appear thicker and spray with TRESemmé Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray!

Hope you are all having a good weekend and don't forget to check yesterday's tutorial! See you Monday :)

*Thank you to TRESemmé for sponsoring this post

This hairstyle is not easy and does not turn out right. Im a hair stylist and this was a failure. ?

I use this braid on my 12yr old and it’s a win with her….. I’ve been doing this to her hair since she was 5, sometimes I do a double braid and do curls pinned instead of a messy bun

I love this hairstyle but it’ not easy if you have long thick hair, because the braid doesn’t really start until halfway up your head and ends up looking really bad after pulled in the ponytail.

These are really some great ideas for medium long hair, I only hope it’s this easy to put up when you have naturally curly hair. I’m going to try all of these! Thanks for your website and these great ideas..

Wow, I had NO idea that Dutch braids existed! (Clearly I’m no hairstylist). I have seen that type before and wondered how the braid looked like that – tight against the head but without the wisps coming in from the side like a French Braid.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

You make this look so easy! I’ve tried this hairstyle (even on someone else) and braiding upside down is no piece of cake. It’s beautiful, though!

Your braiding skills are legitimately impressive. I just tried this like 3 different times and I feel completely uncoordinated.. like the second I’m upside I forget how to braid.

SO glad you mentioned to braid underneath the middle strand! I’ve tried this hair style so many times and could never figure out why the braid was never visible when I would do it. 🙂 Thank you!
