Summer in Whistler and 12 Things
Lifestyle August 1, 2018Back with a 12 Things and pics from Whistler! It has been a while since I have done a 12 things and figured you guys were just dying to hear 12 completely random thoughts from my brain ;) also a huge thanks to Four Seasons for making our trip so amazing. First, this isn't new news or anything but I have been feeling soooo meh lately. It is really frustrating because usually when I feel this way a quick affirmation or change in my thoughts can turn my day around but these past weeks have felt like nothing helps. It is really discouraging. I think it helps most just to play with the kids and be silly with them. I have kind of been a negative nancy lately.
Fun in the flowers.
Back with a 12 Things and pics from Whistler! It has been a while since I have done a 12 things and figured you guys were just dying to hear 12 completely random thoughts from my brain 😉 also a huge thanks to Four Seasons for making our trip so amazing.
1. This isn’t new news or anything but I have been feeling soooo meh lately. It is really frustrating because usually when I feel this way a quick affirmation or change in my thoughts can turn my day around but these past weeks have felt like nothing helps. It is really discouraging. I think it helps most just to play with the kids and be silly with them. I have kind of been a negative nancy lately.
2. I have to write blog posts at home, either in my bed or on the couch. Anytime I try to do it in my office it feels sooo weird. I have done it from home for 8 years now that anything else feels off like I don’t know what to even say. So here I am in bed writing this. *also I am sooo much more productive at night. Just a fun fact. And I am also curious if you guys are more productive at night or during the day.. maybe I will do an insta poll.
3. I feel extremely lucky to have gotten to work with Four Seasons for about 5 years now. I love that you always know you are going to get amazing food, incredible service, and the best experience. I am not just saying this because I work with them, I work with them because I believe this. They are the best hotels we have ever stayed at and everything is just always above and beyond – all the little details just make the stay that much better.

4. A highlight of the trip for me was the whole snowman debacle haha. I am not sure if you read this on my instagram but the kids made a snowman with David (also no it wasn’t cold! It was in the high 70’s but still had some snow that will probably be gone by now) and the kids got sooo attached to it! Especially Atticus. He was devastated when it was time to say goodbye.. through lots of sniffling and tears he would say how he didn’t want him to melt because he is his friend. He begged to bring him on the helicopter! In the helicopter on the way out it was like a dramatic movie flying overtop the snowman and Atticus crying, sniffling, and saying I miss you on the headsets as he waved goodbye. Lots of bear hugs for Atticus and telling him we could frame a photo of snowman for his room was the only thing that made him feel better. It was so tender and sweet!
*oh also the picnic that Blackcomb Helicopters set up for us at the lake we flew to was INCREDIBLE! David and I kept saying to each other that it was one of our favorite experiences ever.
5. We got fresh strawberries and raspberries at the farmers market in Whistler and then I set them down and forgot to grab them and left them there. Sweet.
6. In our new house we have 4 fireplaces which everyone is like.. wait aren’t you in Arizona? Lol.. but I love the ambiance that a fire gives off and I can’t wait to have the fireplace going each night as I lay in bed (and probably write more blog posts). We loved having the fire going in the hotel and watching a movie with popcorn (they will bring you a big bowl of popcorn if you call and ask the front desk!) and cuddles to end the night.

7. Atticus starts school in the morning and he is THRILLED about it!!!! He is super excited to show his teachers all that he learned this summer. They gave him some challenges and things to work on and he honestly killed it with each exercise, I am so so so proud of him! (also whyyy are summer’s soo short now with school? I don’t think school should start until late August.. at least!)
8. I just checked my DM’s on insta and after the Rosie eating corn video I have lots of you asking about how we get her to eat food like that and what we did with her to get her to have such a good relationship with food. We actually did learn a lot from what we did and didn’t do with Atticus and adjusted what we wanted to change with Rosie. It would be too long to explain on here but maybe I will do a blog post or insta story on this.
9. We started watching Sharp Objects — originally because I lovvve Amy Adams so when I saw she was in a series I wanted to try. It is SOO heavy though, wow. I am not sure if we will be able to finish this one.

10. I have the biggest girl crush on Kate McKinnon!!!!!! Like I think she is incredible. I love her on SNL and get so excited when I see her in new movies. I loved her on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee – I love love love how goofy and hilarious she is and that she is also so smart and just doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her. Her confidence is amazing.
11. We are designing box prints for Barefoot Blonde Hair spring and summer 2019 boxes and can’t wait for you to see one of our summer boxes!!!! I have a feeling it will be my favorite of them all.
12. When I was little I used to always have tomato soup with macaroni noodles and cheese in it. I have been craving this non stop and just made a masssive bowl of it. It is so good and so nostalgic to me. I made it for the kids tonight too and was so excited that they liked it! Did anyone else have this growing up?!
Okay that is all for today. Love you guys and thanks for reading!

I’d love to hear more about why you’re so down! Do you think it’s hormonal? Been there, girl.
That dress is everything, BTW.
These are precious Amber! Love you and Rosie’s matching dresses. Can’t wait to visit Whistler!

Oh my gosh, love the snowman story. It is crazy to be able to make a snowman wearing short sleeves LOL. Must have been an amazing experience. We also started watching Sharp Objects having read the book too a few years back. Loved the book, but yes, the storyline is so heavy and just makes you so sad but I will for sure watch all the episodes. Amy Adams is amazing in it.
Amazing photos! I can’t believe school starts so early for you, we don’t start until September in Canada!
Your trip to Whistler looks incredible, I was just there about the same time as you and it is just so beautiful. Great post as always!

That look beyond fun. What an amazing experience for you and David and the babes! I also have a HUGE crush on Kate McKinnon – she is ADORABLE!
It looks like you had an amazing trip, and the kids look so happy! (:
This is such a sweet post. The snowman story is adorable.

I would love to read your tips on raising good eaters! We are having so much trouble with our one year old, lay em on us sista!
Love your instastories 🙂 what did u mean you work for 4 season ?
I’m so so so happy for the baby #3. I watch all your insta stories everyday. 🌺
You have an amazing family. I love you guys!!!! Gongrats!!!! 💐
Darling post! I have a tween daughter now that will try anything food-wise and is a great eater (snails and frog legs in Paris, she loved them, Kudu in Africa, etc). She’s always been a good eater and I give my husband 100% credit – when she first was able to start eating real food he NEVER let her know there was a kids menu and we never ordered off of one for her, she assumed they were just to color on since she couldn’t read. We always gave her food from our plates and never did the chicken tender/mac and cheese thing at home – she ate what we were eating. When my sister had her 2nd, she tried this approach and it worked wonders, her younger kids aren’t picky and will eat/try anything!
** I’d love to know where you got your necklace 😉
Where did you get Rosie’s dress???
The slight negative thought or depression may be pregnancy induced. May look into vitamin therapy or natural oils, but be kind to yourself. Never had macaroni and cheese in tomato soup, but I bet it is good.
The snowman story made me laugh out loud! Sorry, i’m sure it was a sad moment for your kid but it’s just so funny and overly dramatic! Also, re your baby blues, don’t be discouraged. I’m pregnant too and have been going through this. I always remind myself that it’s hormones and rather than trying to push myself to be cheery, I just have to accept that this is how I’m feeling at the moment, while at the same time, I try to remain hopeful that cheery and happy moods are in the near future. You don’t have to be “happy happy” all the time so don’t feel bad about not being so. As long as you stay grateful for the little things, you will be ok. I also found that being “the helper” helps. By this, I mean that rather than trying to force myself to be happy, I’ve become the helper and try to bring happiness to those around me who need it. I hope this helps.
The pictures are amazing!!! <3

Hi! What is the recipe for the soup, noodles, and cheese? Maybe just a guesstimate for how much of each? It sounds good. Thanks!
Beautiful photos! Whistler looks amazingggg. I love 10/12 things blog posts because there is so much magic in the mundane and I love to read about stuff that wouldn’t make it into a normal blog post. I felt totally meh/negative nancy during the first trimester of my pregnancy too, blame it on the hormones, but it passed! Also, ditto about Sharp Objects… The storyline is pretty good but I just can’t stand the blood and scary flashbacks. Not sure how I feel about it. I look forward to reading more pregnancy updates from you!!! Hope you’re feeling well!

I love the 12 things! So fun and now I want to try that recipe lol! The idea to frame a picture of the snowman was so sweet and such a great idea to make him feel better. & I hope you start feeling better.. I found a couple quotes and I hope they help, also sending so much love and hugs your way! You make the world a better place!! “May peace like a river run wild over your soul. Reminding you in chaos: you are living, your are whole.” -Morgan Harper Nichols & “We are tender and fierce. We are soft and strong. We are fragile and courageous. Sometimes all in one day.” -Kelly Rae Roberts <3
I would definitely love a post on what you did differently with Rosie regarding food. That’s one really cool thing my parents always mentioned about having tons of kids was that once you learned something (be it good or bad) you had a chance to do it differently or do it again with the next kid. So it wasn’t ever like you figured something else out and then the knowledge went to waste.

Hi Amber!!
I am pregnant too, still just in the first trimester – but I feel awful with my pregnancies and the only thing that seems to help a little is 25mg of b6 three times a day with meals! Hope you start to feel better soon 😘
I was so sure you were pregnant because you had stopped posting pics where your belly showed and once you posted a story where you had like a blanket or something on your stomach haha! This year I’ve guessed the gender correct on all of the celebrity pregnancies that I’ve been following but so far on yours I don’t have a clue. Enjoy this exciting stage!!!
oh man…that story about atticus and the snowman breaks my heart a little….what a sweet little guy! You got a cute pic of him and his snowman friend so he can always look back and remember though!
Was just thinking it’s been a while since you’ve done 12 things…
Whistler is on our list. My husband viditedback when we was 12 or so but we want to go together someday!
I am a evening/ night person. I don’t know what it is, it takes me forever to get going in the morning. I wake up slowly and need coffee before anything else. I get a boost of energy in the afternoon/evening. I contribute it to being a night shift nurse for years. Now I’m on days, I don’t feel completely adjusted. Some days are better than others.
Hope you start to feel yourself again. The last three days, I have been blah myself. It’s either pms or the opposite… 🙂 tbc
This place is really good in picnic ha! Love all your photos as always and yeah I am also so productive every night and I think that’s normal. Haha!

I totally understand about being bummed all of the time. It’s something I unfortunately have to deal with on the regular. It can be really hard sometimes to change your negative thoughts and to snap out of it. What usually helps me is surrounding myself with those that make me feel happy..and when I’m not near them, I facetime them. I also find that excercise helps me a lot..I am by no means a fitness person, but I try to go to the gym 2-3x per week and take walks, bike rides, and maybe yoga on the other days. Taking walks really helps me clear my mind or deal with anything that’s bothering me. Or sometimes I’ll take a walk listening to an inspiring podcast. I also write positive affirmations on postits and stick them on my bathroom mirror or my computer screen (wherever you’ll see them a lot). This helps me combat the negative thoughts that Im dealing with at that time. And then i love getting lost in a book or watching fun movies…this sort of helps you escape for a bit (but be careful not to do this too much because then it could be counterproductive). Please reach out if you ever need to talk. I know it’s always nice to find someone who understands.
Also, to answer you’re question from #2…I tend to be productive in the middle of the day (maybe 10am-6pm).
Well wishes!
Devon
it would help if i left you my email address in case you wanted to reach out 🤪 haha..

I think the picture of Rosie and the snowman is my favorite!
Why do they start school so early in AZ?! I feel like summers are getting shorter and shorter. Late August would be the perfect time to go back!
