Summer Camping Trip Essentials
Lifestyle July 17, 2018I wanted to share some pictures from our backpacking/ summer camping trip and also share the gear we brought with us! A lot of you had asked about the gear we brought so hopefully this answers all your questions! We had Rosie in a carrier and David carrying all of our stuff in a backpacking backpack. Atticus hiked on his own with a water backpack. It was 2.2 miles up and 2.2 miles down so we were really proud of Atticus and how well he did on his first big hike. We started just above Silver Lake Flat and hiked up to Silver Lake (there are two Silver Lakes but the second you have to hike to which is where we went!)Β The way up was kind of rough for me because the night before I got food poisoning and was throwing up alllll night and all morning.. I threw up a couple hours before we started the hike. And of course after throwing up so much you don't really feel like eating so I just had no energy and felt so so weak the whole way. Needless to say the way down felt like a breeze.

We had about 16 or so kids between all the families and all of the cousins just played in the dirt, went fishing, played in the lake, and explored. I was literally so covered in dirt after that I had to scrub so hard to get it all off haha it was insane. I wore David’s shorts almost the whole time too because I thought it would be cold up there and didn’t bring shorts! Anyways it was really fun and I think we will try to do one again when Rosie is big enough to hike on her own – so maybe next summer! We really want our kids to have lots of memories in nature camping and not just nice hotels. We really want to make it a point to stay at some not so great hotels too as they get older. I remember being in high school and a friend came on a trip with us and me and my siblings were so excited about the hotel and I could tell my friend thought it wasn’t nice and she said how her family always stays at nicer hotels .. and now that I am a parent I never want my kids to ever say something like that to someone so we talk a lot about how we can avoid our kids having those expectations.
Hope you all have a good day!!!! We are having a low key day in Whistler today and we are going to just swim at the hotel and go on a walk by the river later! xoxoxo

Summertime in Utah
We took these pics up Sundance canyon in Utah β I love summertime in Utah and love getting to go up there to hang with family each summer. I canβt believe we used to live with those mountains as our backdrop ahh they always take my breath away every time we go visit.

Hi! Can you tell us where you shopped those gray sweatpants (that you’re wearing in the family pic)? I love them! Having trouble finding anything as cute.
Hi Amber, it’s wonderful and warmest family trip. Your sharing would be very helpful to me to prepare essential items for family trip. I’m thinking to buy a family tent for camping here is what I’m looking http://www.pirt.org/best-family-tents/. What do you think about that? Please give me suggestion. It’s first time of us for camping. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
Hi Amber, these photos are gorgeous, as always! Thanks for sharing. My father-in-law just bought a place in Holladay, UT because he wants to plan adventures just like this for his grandchildren. π I actually have two questions for you:
1) Do you know of any home designers and/or contractors in the SLC area? My father-in-law is planning to completely remodel his house and doesn’t have any leads.
2) Any other trips like this that you recommend for families with small children? In our crew there are currently four grandkids under 4 years old and one more on the way!
Thank you!!
I super love your family Amber! Hope you can find your passport, it so much memories. xx

Summer is for creating memories with the ones we love. A camping trip is so much more enjoyable when you have the right equipment/resources. Thanks for the suggestions Amber!
Happy Friday

Would also love to know where your shoes are from!
Hi Amber ! Your trip seems so dreamy ! Now I want to plan plan something like that for my summer ! I really like to know how you and David train Chauncey to stay with you. We have a really cute and nice golden but he’s always need to say hello to every human and dog that he see and we’d like to have him more free than with his long leash. Love your blog so much !
It sounds like a wonderful trip and the scenery is beautiful. It’s been years since I’ve been camping.

I really liked reading your comment about aiming to stay in not the best hotels in the future so that your kids grow up grounded. You are giving your kids such a wonderful childhood with all the travel and adventures but so many people (myself included) don’t have the finances to give their kids the same opportunities. I agree with you that it’s important for your kids to know that all the travel and nice hotels is a special thing they should not take for granted. Kudos to you for being self aware enough to see that. π
I thought the same thing! π You and David are amazing parents!
I’m a total stranger to camping, but my boyfriend loves it, so this is great!
I can actually get him some of these items as a gift π
