When Toca Boca asked us to work with them to promote their Stand for Play program we were so excited because that is so our parenting style. We both think it's so important to let kids explore and play on their own and we love to watch Atticus do his thing! The other week I sent David an article I found online that I loved. The girl had done an experiment to see how many times her son would look over at her if she just sat and observed for an hour. He looked over 28 times - whether it was to see if she was looking, to show off a new trick, etc. She made the point that had she been on her phone, those 28 moments would have been moments her son thought that electronics were more important than him and his validation. We try to be good about not being on our phones but after we read that we made a no phones in the nursery policy. Sometimes I don't even realize I am on my phone - even just the other day after we made the rule I freaking did a snapchat in there and then David reminded me ;) we are trying to both get in the habit of leaving it on the counter before going in. That is our time to watch Atticus play and play with him and nothing else. Kids now days play less, have less unstructured free time, which results in decreased creativity and imagination. Just the other day David and I were talking about how fun it is to see Atticus grow up and start to use his imagination while playing. Toca Boca’s Stand for Play program is promoting free play with no rules, timers or points. Just kids being kids, the only goal is to just let them play!We were introduced to Toca Boca through our friends and have loved their apps since. Atticus loves the Toca Blocks game - I don't think he knows what he is doing yet haha but he loves just moving the blocks around! A's contractor brother in law loves that atticus walks around measuring everything with a tape measure - soon he will be building little houses with those blocks ;)Right now Toca Boca is giving away a free poster to the first 2,000 people who share the Stand for Play campaign on their Facebook.
