Don’t try this at home
Lifestyle February 11, 2018I've given these kids some serious hang time. I’m sure it started like it did for any other dad out there, or mom for that matter. Kid gets sad, dad tries to make kid happy, kid ignores him, dad starts tossing kid in the air, kid starts a smile. Before you know it you’ve got a happy kid. Dad realizes he's got a trick up his sleeve. There’s nothing better than hearing Rosie’s sweet voice "Again!" when I catch her. So I oblige her. Usually to the point of exhaustion. I did the same with Atticus and will likely do it with baby #3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13...

I was scrolling through pictures the other day and couldn’t help but realize how many great photos we have of hang time, so I thought i’d put them together in a little compilation. I likely give Amber a mini heart attack every time I do it, but if you notice, there are even a few of her throwing the kids too;) If you zoom in, you’ll never see the look of terror, or shock, or fear on their faces. Only pure happiness.








Sounds silly and cheesy, but especially with his passing, I remember like it was yesterday the feeling of being thrown by my dad. I remember as I got older, and bigger, those throws started to only happen in the pool because i’m sure it was the only place he felt confident throwing me where if he dropped me, I wouldn’t break my head open. That’s becoming the case with Atticus. He’s getting so big right before my eyes. I throw him in the pool and I can’t help but think this is the same joy I shared with my dad. I love these kids and the smile they put on my face.

I have long considered whether to say anything about the matter of throwing children up in the air. I have admired your pics and the stories of your family life for a long time. so I didn’t want to be the bummer blog fan. I, too, fondly remember the days of being thrown up in the air by my daddy and then the sadness when he could only do it to my younger sister because I was too big haha!! It’s a worldwide fun bonding moment between parent and child. Saying that I was told very certainly by a few orthopedic surgeons in my husband’s medical schools days, to NEVER throw a child up that way. We always think of accidents as being freak accidents, but the orthopedic docs see them too frequently from them to consider them freakish. Spinal issues can happen to small kids too. Just had to say something. Perhaps you have already been warned too. I know we stopped doing it with our kids when they were small. Just not worth the risk. So many other ways to make them happy.
This is so cute. It brings back so many memories. My dad did this to me when I was a kid too.
I love seeing all the fun places you all have traveled together! Our first little guy will be born next month here in NYC and I cannot wait to begin traveling with him! Hope we get to travel as often as you all do!!

Um, these are absolutely ADORABLE!!!! Omg! Seeing Baby Atticus is giving me all the feels right now! My oldest son is just a few months younger than him and it’s crazy to see how fast three years have gone by! I cannot believe how high they go too! Serious hang time for sure!! Love, love, love!

i love love love how many ages and places these babes have been happily tossed by their daddy! this is THE sweetest. and i know it all brings about so many emotions about your own dad. i’m so sorry for your loss. i know nothing can fix the pain of missing someone you love, but it’s beautiful that you can pass that same love on to your own little ones.

I absolutely love it, scary yes since it looks like they actually get at least 6 feet of air but I’m sure you trust and know you’d never let them get hurt. Really cool places too, to catch those images. In one of the photos either Atticus or Rosie (sorry forget which baby it was right now) looked like they were bing sent down from the sun in one shot (pretty cool). Those memories of living in the moment the kids will always have and the feeling of trusting You as well.
So fun! How special to have these photo to remember! My kids are 17 and 11 now but they loved it when dad tossed them in the air also;)
